ACEIP Association: Our Heritage and Vision

The ACEIP Association was founded to preserve and carry forward the vision of our mentor, Professor Ivo Pitanguy.

The Legacy of Enfermeria 38
In the 1960s, in collaboration with the PUC (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro), Prof. Pitanguy established South America’s first residency program in reconstructive surgery at the Santa Casa della Misericordia in Rio de Janeiro—Brazil’s oldest hospital.

It was here that Enfermaria 38 (Ward 38) was born: a specialized unit dedicated to reconstructive surgery.

A Revolutionary Approach to Healthcare
Physical deformities—whether congenital or acquired—often affect those most in need. In a region where healthcare is predominantly private, Prof. Pitanguy introduced a visionary model:

A Self-Sustaining System: Aesthetic procedures funded the cost of reconstructive surgeries.

Universal Dignity: Reconstructive care was provided free of charge to those who could not afford it.

Our Mission
This pioneering school has trained generations of surgeons who carry a profound sensitivity toward their patients. Our foundation rests on a steadfast principle:

“Science must meet faith.”

The best of Europe and Brasil

Our association unites the pragmatism of the European School of plastic surgery, with the innovation of the Brazilian School.
